Krav Maga

Who is it for?
The reality of Krav Maga is that it excludes nobody. The system is designed to be learned quickly by anyone. It was originally designed so that any member of the Israeli armed forces, whether a chef or a Special Forces soldier could be brought up to a similar level in a short period of time. Below are just some examples of people who use Krav Maga:-
- Israeli Defence and Security Forces
- Military units around the globe
- 200,000 everyday people like you and me.

Level 1 White

This entry level class is designed for all new Krav Maga students. The goal of the class is to teach the basics of self defense and fighting. Students will learn Krav Maga’s fighting stance and movement, various punches, kicks from standing position as well as from on the ground, elbows and knees, and how to defend against punches, chokes, headlocks and wrist grabs. Students who train an average of two to three times per week should expect to complete the curriculum in four months before testing into Krav Maga Level 2.

Duration: 4 – 6 Months

Level 2 Yellow Belt

This is our beginner program! A rotating curriculum benefits students of any age, fitness level, or experience level.
Experience required: none

This program teaches material for yellow belts, which focuses on foundation-level technique, aggression, and overall Krav Maga philosophy. Students learn the basics of self-defense, from counters to chokes and simple strikes, through the basics of unarmed handgun defense. Drills at this level simulate aspects of street fighting under relatively low-stress conditions, but classes are still high-intensity.

Level 3 Orange Belt

Prerequisites: completion of a Yellow Belt certification or instructor approval
Gear required: boxing gloves, mouth guard

The Orange Belt curriculum is a continuation of the techniques learned at Yellow Belt, but with increased stress and intensity. This is still considered beginner-level, but the techniques become slightly more complex, and the training becomes more demanding. Students will expand their repertoire of strikes and will improve their ability to finish an engagement quickly and decisively. Students will experience “closing the training circle,” where their engagements will happen at a much closer range and incorporate a variety of grappling and ground fighting techniques.
Duration: 9 – 12 Months

Level 4 Green Belt

Prerequisites: completion of the Orange Belt certification or instructor approval
Gear required: shin protectors, head gear (recommended)

Students training at this level now begin intermediate techniques including a much heavier emphasis on ground fighting and sparring. Light sparring drills are conducted to improve movement skills, awareness, and fluidity of movement, and the intensity is meant to ease students into the world of fighting. Contact during sparring exercises is extremely limited to foster a mutual learning environment and are always in full protective gear. Training drills for self-defense are now much higher intensity and will push a student’s abilities under a much wider variety of conditions.

Level 5 Blue Belt

Prerequisites: completion of Green Belt certification or instructor approval

This begins intermediate to advanced-level training that continues on the Green Belt level curriculum. Students will learn more advanced ground fighting skills, and the curriculum shifts to a heavy emphasis on weapons defense. By this time in a student’s training they have a great deal of experience with handgun threats, but will now learn to apply those techniques under stress. Basic stick fighting, both armed and unarmed, will also be incorporated into the curriculum. Sparring is significantly higher-intensity, and the stress drills may include weapon threats and multiple attackers.
Duration: 9 – 12 Months

Level 6 Brown Belt

Prerequisites: completion of a Blue Belt performance exam.

Brown Belt training is considered advanced-level, where techniques deal with extremely high-risk situations. Intensive weapons training, including responses to threats with long guns, knives, and multiple attackers is the main focus of Brown Belt level training. Stress drills are now highly realistic, and include armed assaults in extremely compromised circumstances.
Duration: 9 – 12 Months

Level 7 Black Belt

Entrance to this program requires completion of a Brown Belt Performance Test.

The Krav Maga Black Belt demonstrates mastery of the system’s philosophy and can effectively defend against threats that have been introduced throughout the curriculum. Many of the techniques are more specialized, sophisticated, and esoteric, and include third party protection, carjacking, home invasion, and fighting with multiple weapons systems involved. The intensive training of this part of the Lamka Shaolin Disciples' Union curriculum is meant to prepare the student for the infamous Black Belt Test, a full-day ordeal where a practitioner trains, drills with, and fights many of the best practitioners of the style to attain the coveted title of Krav Maga Black Belt. An extremely small percentage of students every make it to this level. It is extremely difficult and highly demanding.

Krav Maga black belt requires a lot of responsibility. You are considered an instructor now, therefore you need to make sure that you act like one. You can start your own academy now, maybe make some extra money on the side or simply to cover the costs of your own training. Heck it might flourish into a great fun business who knows, possibilities are endless.
